So what is Bowen Therapy?
About Bowen Therapy
Bowen therapy is a hands-on soft tissue therapy that treats the whole person. It works with the dynamic relationship between our muscular-skeletal and neurological systems to trigger the brain to undertake its own body wide restoration. Bowen Therapy can make a big difference in addressing physical, emotional and psychological challenges.
With a few gentle, precisely placed distinctive moves, Bowen therapy (also known as The Bowen Technique) seems to press a reset button helping your body to return to ‘normal’ settings. Switching off the stress, boosting the immune system, realigning the spine and it’s relationship with the whole frame, releasing restrictions, stopping the pain and promoting healing.
Bowen therapy is gentle but its effects are powerful. It is not just a sticking plaster but aims to resolve issues at the root cause. Common side effects include improving sleep, boosting energy, curbing mind racing and that ‘wound up, coiled spring’ feeling and fixing those other longstanding niggles you didn’t think to mention to your Bowen therapist.
Who is suitable for a Bowen Therapy Treatment?
Bowen therapy is for all from newborns to the very elderly, from super fit and healthy to those with chronic health challenges. Due to its gentle non-invasive approach there is no situation where Bowen Therapy is not appropriate.
What to expect at an appointment
Each bespoke appointment starts with a consultation followed by a hands-on treatment involving a series of gentle rolling moves placed at precise points without force or manipulation. Unique to Bowen therapy, the treatment includes short breaks without interruption, focused on promoting a deep level of relaxation to allow your body to absorb and respond to work throughout.
Typically, the client will spend most of the treatment laying on a therapy couch, although treatment can given seated or even standing where circumstances dictate.
Responses to a Bowen Therapy appointment can continue for up to 7 days. Since there is a cumulative effect, it is recommended in most cases to plan initially 3 – 4 x appointments, each approx. 1 week apart. Often progress is quite evident after 3 - 4 appointments and if not fully resolved, will inform how best to take the treatment forward. Once rebalanced, many clients choose to have a regular maintenance appointment every 4-6 weeks.

"After 3 treatments with Lindsay my sciatic pain which I had been struggling with for months had all but gone, and my long term anxiety, panic attacks and sleepless nights were under control. I am amazed to find that after a few weeks without treatment, things have continued to improve and I am currently without symptoms"
